SIXTEEN DINOS MAKE CFL ROSTERS

Sixteen former Dinos cracked CFL rosters following the 2013 training camps. Seven players from last year’s Conference championship team have made CFL rosters or are attending in one case NFL camp with each having CIS eligibility remaining. A four are with the Montreal Alouettes, Steven Lumbala, Mike Edem, Jordan Verdone and Mike Klassen, Kirby Fabien with the BC Lions, Carson Rockhill with the Hamilton Ti-Cats and Linden Gaydosh who currently is with the Carolina Panthers of the NFL.

Four members of the Dinos have made the Montreal Alouettes roster. First round picks Mike Edem (3rd overall) and Stephen Lumbala (5th overall) cracked the roster as did defensive end Mike Klassen and linebacker Jordan Verdone. All four players had varsity eligibility remaining. Defensive back Jamahl Knowles made the practice roster and also had eligibility remaining.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have offensive guard Paul Swiston and running back Anthony Woodson on their roster, both having played there last year.

Veteran offensive lineman Tim O’Neill returns for another season with the Hamilton Tiger Cats and Carson Rockhill signed with them this morning.

Saskatchewan Roughriders have linebacker Sam Hurl, who begins his second season with the Green & White.

Running back Matt Walter, offensive lineman Dan Federkeil, and receiver Anthony Parker are back with the Calgary Stampeders.

Up the Queen Elizabeth highway in Edmonton, the Eskimos have offensive lineman Alex Krausnick-Groh and receiver Nate Coehoorn on their roster.

On the West Coast the B.C. Lions have offensive lineman Kirby Fabien, Fabien begins his first season with the Lions and also had a year eligibility remaining in CIS football.


Calgary also has a player currently attending workouts with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League. All Canadian Linden Gaydosh was signed as a free agent the club and will attend Main Camp come early August.

UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY DINOS DEFENSIVE BACK COACH TO SPEND THREE DAYS AT SASKATCHEWAN ROUGHRIDERS CAMP IN SASKATOON:

University of Calgary defensive secondary coach Marcello Rapini will spend three days at the training camp of the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Saskatoon, SK., beginning Saturday, June 1 and concluding Monday evening.

Rapini will observe the secondary drills conducted by Riders’ secondary coach Barron Miles. Rapini will be on the field and also attend secondary meetings Miles conducts.

Two former University of Calgary Dinos will be at the Riders’ camp. Linebacker Sam Hurl begins his second year with the team while Thomas Spoletini will be attending Riders camp as their 6th round draft selection.

“I am grateful for the Saskatchewan Roughriders for allowing me to observe and participate in their training camp for the first three days,” states Rapini and is looking forward to the experience.


A volunteer assistant coach, Rapini is Vice-President of Marketing for Perpetual Energy Inc., and as been the team’s secondary coach since 2006.
