There are currently 27 players in CFL and NFL camps this weekend, that have played at the CIS level for coach Blake Nill. The staggering 21 former Dinos in the Pros is tops in the CIS.

In memory of Daniel
Lamola, the Hilltoppers Football Association is also going to be honouring
Daniel prior to the Hilltoppers vs Mavericks game being held this Wednesday, May
8 at Hellard Field, Shouldice Athletic Park. The Memorial will begin
at 8:00 pm prior to the game start time time of 8:30 pm. Guests are
asked to wear their team apparel/jerseys in support of Dan.

On Wednesday, May 1, 2013
our community lost an amazing son, brother, and friend. Daniel Lamola was a
first generation Canadian, born to parents Aldous and Mary Lamola on September
29, 1993.
Early on, sports became an
important part of his life. Daniel played soccer, basketball and enjoyed
skateboarding, but his real passion was football. He played for the Hilltoppers,
the Notre Dame Pride and the University of Calgary Dinos, where he was a
defensive lineman.
Daniel was a student in his
second year at the University of Calgary, and enjoyed spending time with his
friends and listening to music. He especially enjoyed camping trips with friends
and movie nights with family. Daniel was inquisitive and liked reading
biographies and inspirational books in his spare time. He had a good sense of
humour, liked to make people laugh, and was very quick to forgive. Daniel will
be remembered for his patience, gentle nature, the way he treated others with
kindness, and the way he always made time for the people in his
life.
Daniel is survived by his
parents Aldous and Mary; and sisters, Susan, Mercy and
Karen.
A Memorial Service will be held in the
Jack Simpson Gymnasium at the University of Calgary (2500 University Drive NW)
on Friday, May 10, 2013. Parking is available in Lot 10 and doors open at 9:30
a.m for a 10:30 service. Condolences may be forwarded through

memorial donations may be made directly to the University of Calgary Football

Spring Camp Report: Day 1
Day one of 2013 Spring Camp is in the books. Two hours on the field and one step close to the 2013 season. The field at McMahon Stadium was a buzz with the mingling of old and new, all aboard for the 2013 edition of the Dinos Football. There were many highlights from the Dinos first day on the field in 2013, this report will serve to highlight a few daily.
Top Offensive Returnee
Elie Bouka - WR: Following an injury plagued 2012, Elie had a great off-season and looks ready to dominate the west in 2013. Wednesday night Elie looked a step faster than anyone on the field and a tough cover in one on one drills.
Top Offensive Rookie
Ryan Sceviour - OL: Ryan comes to the Dinos after a great high school career at Bowness. In his first practice with the Dinos, looked strong and confident and played very physically while working with group two offense.
Top Defensive Returnee
Tyler Langlais - DL: With the departure of 4 of the Dinos top 5 linemen from 2012, now is the time for Langlais to emerge. Serving in a back up role in 2012, following a terrific off-season in the weight room Tyler is ready to take charge in 2013. On Day 1 of Spring Camp, Langlais dominated one on one drills and at times looked unblockable.
Top Defensive Rookie
Jeremy Neisz - DL: Joining the Dinos from St. Francis High School in Calgary, Jeremy made an impact on Day 1 of Spring Camp. The young defensive line looked very physical and had a high motor. In the team period to close the day, Jeremy had two sacks while working with the group twos.
Hit of the Day
Cole Van Esch - FB: A rookie from Bishop O'Bryne High School in Calgary. During the interior run period, Cole was a lead blocker on an iso run and delivered a devastating blow to veteran linebacker Alex Ogbongbemiga.
DINOS BEGIN SPRING WITH OUTSTANDING GROUP OF NEW PLAYERS:
With departure of several fifth
year players and the possibility of a half dozen players up for the Canadian
Football Draft next week, Head Coach Blake Nill expects to have 95 players
attend spring camp, 60 of which are returnees.
“This camp gives the coaching
staff to see how our returning players have improved and how our new players
can adapt to Canada West football,” states Nill.
Some of the key new players are:
Quarterback Boston Rowe who had a solid season at St.
Francis High
School in Calgary and playing for Team Alberta. Also added was offensive guard Ryan Sceviour who is regarded as a
solid addition from Bowness
High School. Sceviour’s
parents are both former Dino athletes with his mother having played volleyball and
his father a former member of the hockey program.
A pair of running backs from
outside of Calgary,
are solid athletes. Connor McGough
hails from Medicine Hats’ Crescent
Heights High School. While Cole Fiedler
comes to the program from Catholic Central High in Lethbridge, where he played
for former U of C linebacker Mike Nightengale.
Large receiver Rashaun Simonise joins the team after a
solid career at Vancouver
College, a program that
has developed many excellent players over the years that have played in the CIS,
NCAA and CFL.
On the defensive side of the
football lineman Brett Wade comes to
the Dinos from the Regina Prairie Thunder. Wade played for Team Canada at the
Junior World Championships.
Linebacker Tyson Lee
of the 2012 Provincial 4A Champion Notre Dame Pride heads the group of young
linebackers and is joined by Calgary Centennial High grad Iyanu Ojekale.
A familiar name in the secondary is that of Robert Woodson of St. Francis High in Calgary. Rob is the
younger brother of former Dinos running back Anthony Woodson who is now with
the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

posted at the conclusion of the day with further insight on what has
transpired.
