ND PRIDE TACKLE A DINO

The University of Calgary football Dinos continue to stock talent for 2016 and beyond, confirming the signing of versatile offensive lineman Daniel Townsend to a Canadian Interuniversity Sport Letter of Intent.

The 6’5”, 270 lbs. Townsend anchored the offensive line at Notre Dame High School in Calgary where he played for former University of Calgary player David Diluzio. Townsend played both offensive tackle and guard in his two years with the Pride. He was a member of their Provincial and City 4A Championship team in 2014 and a member of their 2015 team that was both City and Provincial Finalists. Daniel will also attend Team Canada Rising Star Bowl in North Dakota later this spring.

“Daniel is tall and long offensive tackle. He had a great career from an outstanding program at Notre Dame. His length and agility will make him a fine player in Canada West,” states Head Coach Wayne Harris.

Townsend was a Calgary Division I all-star in 2015 and also was named his school’s Most Improved Player. He played minor football in the Hilltoppers organization and was their Offensive Lineman of the Year in his final year and a Calgary Midget League all-star.

“I met the coaches and they seemed nice and Calgary is home,” stated Townsend who was pursued by the Universities of Manitoba and Regina.

Daniel is the son of Lee and Janet Townsend of Calgary.

COBRA GUARD JOINS DINOS

Offensive lineman Michael Scott will not have far to go to university. A 6’2”, 270 lbs. offensive guard Scott, who hails from the rural bedroom community of Cochrane, AB, north west of Calgary has signed CIS Letter of Intent and attend the University of Calgary.

“Calgary is a great school and they have the program I wish to take. My parents went to the University of Calgary and I have cousins going to school there,” states Scott who preferred to stay close to home.

Scott comes from a highly successful high school program. He started on the 2014 and 2015 Provincial 3A Champion Cochrane Cobras at offensive guard under the direction of Head Coach Rob McNab. This past year he played both ways, playing nose tackle on the defensive line. He was named his team’s defensive player of the year and won that award for Rockyview League that surrounds Calgary. He capped his season being named Most Valuable Player for the Cobras.

“Michael comes for a great program that has been very successful. He is a hard working competitor who played both ways and will develop into an interior offensive lineman,” states recruiting coordinator Matt Berry.

Michael was also recruited by the University of Regina as well as Queen’s University and will study Economics at the University of Calgary.

He is the son of Doug and Rene Scott of Cochrane, AB.
